Pray Persistently

By October 26, 2014October 28th, 2014Core Values Series, Sermon Series Pre-Campaign)

Luke 18:1-8

3 Reasons to pray persistently:

  1. Because God is the righteous judge (v. 6)
    • cf. Psalm 86:8-13
    • Application:
      • God is concerned with the injustice in the world and in your life.
      • We know God to whom we are praying.
  2. Because God promises to administer justice quickly (v. 7-8a)
    • Application:
      • Vengeance is the Lord’s
      • God is faithful to deliver
    • Question: what about the people that God chose not to deliver? (martyrs, etc)
      • Purpose of this parable is to encourage the people to pray (v. 1)
      • It is a parable
      • We are living for a higher purpose than just our deliverance
        • Polycarp
      • Ultimately God will deliver us and administer perfect justice
  3. Because prayer reflects your faith (v. 8b)
    • There is a direct relationship between your faith and your prayer life.
    • Application:
      • Is you lack of a prayer life due to your lack of faith?
      • Be a person in whom Jesus finds faith when he returns
