Isaiah 52:13 – 53:12
Big Idea: You can overcome your suffering knowing that your God has suffered with you.
6 descriptive characteristics of the Messiah and his life:
- He will be glorified (Isaiah 52:13)
- Servant of the Lord – Israel, one of the prophets, the Messiah
- Israel didn’t suffer innocently, or meekly
- Philip Acts 8:30-35 applies this prophecy to Jesus
- Suffering on behalf of God’s sinful people
- Servant of the Lord – Israel, one of the prophets, the Messiah
- He will be brutally beaten (Isaiah 52:14-15)
- He will not look like a leader (Isaiah 53:1-3)
- No physical leadership status
- No social leadership status
- despised and rejected – cf. Galatians 3:13
- He will bear our sin and the results of our sin (Isaiah 53:4-6)

- He will be unjustly accused (Isaiah 53:7-9)
