In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus calls his followers to live an uncommon life. This uncommon life couldn’t be more evident than in Jesus’ teaching regarding lust and marriage. What have you heard about lust and marriage and divorce? Let’s see what Jesus had to say about it.

Matthew 5:27-32

Adultery begins at lust (Matthew 5:27-28)

  • 4 lies of pornography:
    • Everyone lusts; porn will fulfill my desire
    • This is what good sex is like
    • It isn’t hurting anyone
    • You can stop whenever you want

Go to extreme lengths to avoid sin (Matthew 5:29-30)

Cling to your marriage (Matthew 5:31-32)

  • Marriage is a divine covenant relationship which reflects Jesus and the Church and unites a man and a woman asĀ one
  • See also Matthew 19:1-12; Hosea; Ephesians 5:22-33; 1 Corinthians 7; Ezekiel 16

Big Idea: Love your spouse as Jesus loves you.
